Well folks, things have definitely changed in the Peterson household in the past few weeks. Our summer together has officially ended, and Ben and Kellan have gone back to full time daycare and I've gone back to teaching. Bittersweet, but in the end it was Kellan who had the easiest transition. Seriously, I would never have thought that he would be the one who just waltzes into daycare like he did the first week of June! But, I'll take it. At the end of the summer, we had his second tear-free haircut (one year in the making) and I told my hairstylist to cut it
really short (without the threat of lice, mind you) because his hair grows at this lightning speed. I didn't like it (see above pic), so this time we're going to let it grow out a bit. He looks like he is in the army :)

Out of the entire family, Kellan is the most excited about our community sponsored agriculture share purchase this year. Every other week we get a box of fruit and veggies and he LOVES to comb through to see what can be eaten
instantly. Sweet corn is a huge hit for him, he often will eat ears of corn for his entire meal. I think that he has a future as a chef.

Ben started 4 year old kindergarten on September 1st. He is in the afternoon group and he gets picked up by the bus at his daycare provider's home. I guess it is a big production when everyone waits for the bus with you (babies included!). My only issue with busing is that he is riding for 1.25 hours in the morning and then about 40 minutes after school, with three hours of instruction in there too. There is also a bus transfer that he has to do with about 500+ kids that makes him very nervous (and his tears are my tears too), but within the first week all of the kinks were worked out and his anxiety level decreased. All of these changes have caused him some sleep issues, we are finding him out of bed at night wandering his room and he also tosses and turns in his sleep (I hear him hit the wall often). I'm hoping that this will settle over time, I know that this is the same way that Kellan processes changes in his life.

Other than those issues, he loves school, which makes me happy. Ben is deaf in his left ear, so we are working on getting him an FM system for school time. This is where he wears an earpiece in his "good" ear and the teacher wears a necklace with a microphone on it. Our meeting is in three weeks to figure out if it is necessary for his hearing in the classroom.
Oh my goodness!! What handsome boys they are! Love Kellan's haircut (even if you don't! ha) My boys all get the military buzz so I'm kind of partial to it ;) That is a LONG bus ride for Ben! Wow! Caden is on the bus for maybe 20-25 minutes. I did not know that Ben was deaf in his left ear! Hope everything goes well with getting him the help he needs, if he should need it!! Here's to a good school year for the big Pre-K boy!! :0)
ReplyDeleteHa! I love the produce sampling shot! I hope things have settled down by now for transitioning back to school. I don't work with kids all day, but I know what you mean about alone time...I'm so grateful to commute via bus for that exact reason. You just get overstimulated! Sounds like you're all gearing up for kindergaten over there as well...sigh.
