Well, part of that is right. I'm pretty lazy with my blogging lately! We are still here, enjoying every moment of our summer. Andy is in the middle of switching jobs, so he took a week off to be at home with me and the boys. It is the first time since Ben was born that he has been able to take time off (minus all of the sick time that kids require), so we've been living it up. We traveled to Madison to visit the zoo and we've gone to local pools with deeper water and slides that I couldn't possibly manage solo without the support of high dosage anti-anxiety medication. As a result, Kellan had a bout of swimmer's ear, but it is par for the course with kids and summer! We are planning to celebrate Kellan's birthday on Saturday. I could not be more excited to throw him a birthday party this year. He understands most of the birthday concept and even knows how to sing the song (modified to 2 year old standards). We will see how Ben handles a party that is NOT for him. I have a rule at our house that there are no personal toys, the toys belong to our family and we can all play with them. It took a while for Ben to get this concept, but I always remind him that he can play with any toy at his daycare provider's home (who has two children of her own) ~ this seems to squash any hurt feelings that he has.
Kellan has had a language explosion since I have been home for the summer. He now says "sentences" (I say this lightly), such as "Mommy, mouse here" while reading a book, or "Daddy home now" when Andy pulls into the driveway. It is so much nicer to have him be able to say that he is done eating, wants more food, or ask for water ("mo awa peas") when he needs it. Not to say that we don't have any tantrums or typical 2 year old behavior ~ we caught him scooping water out of the toilet and placing it very nicely on our hallway carpet this week ~ he is totally a normal 2 year old!
Beyond being lazy with my blogging, I also have an online class that is due August 1st that I need to tackle and SOON. No more putting it off!
Did you go to the Henry Vilas Zoo?? I do not know if I told you, but that is the zoo that my uncle is the curator :)
ReplyDeleteGlad Andy has been able to enjoy some time at home!!
Cannot wait to see how the bday unfolds :)
Happy Summer and you are surviving beautifully! :)
Wow, almost 2 already? That's great about the language growth. Not that I wish them to grow up any faster than they need to, but, um, talking really comes in handy. I love talking about the world with my 4 yr old and am looking forward to connecting with my 2 year old this way too.
ReplyDeleteFantastic that you get some family time at home. Nothing like being between jobs to be truly relaxed and not focused on work!
I've right there with you on summer blog slacker-dom. It is just not in me these days.
