22 Months

Well, we are finally approaching the *one year* event! I never thought that this would sneak up on me . . . but here we are. Kellan is 22 months old today and he is SO almost 2 years old. One of the main things that has developed in the last two months is his phrasing. Within one week Kellan learned 6 new phrases, "Daddy home", "Bye Manny", "More please", "go up", "What's that?" and "IWANTTHAT!" (which comes out more like "Iuntdat"). It has been amazing to watch him grow within our family over the last 11.5 months. He truly is learning to identify himself within us.
With that, we've hit a speed bump. Kellan has been relatively healthy since our 8 week sick-a-thon in Nov./Dec./Jan. Since then, Kellan has had three more ear infections. It is getting to the point where if he pops a temp., I call the doctor immediately so we can get him on some antibiotics the same day. Last Thursday, he followed that same pattern and he has a nasty ear infection in his left ear. He's been on meds since then and we haven't seen much improvement (we've taken him in twice, they say it will run its course), and he is miserable. He's actually sitting on the couch. Not talking. Not eating. Not moving.
Sometimes he gets bored with that routine and he will put his head down. It is awful to watch. Hopefully, we will see some improvement soon (don't worry . . . I'll be calling them again tomorrow) and I can get my little Kellan back in tip-top shape for our Petersonpalooza next week. I'm going through all sorts of emotions as our one year anniversary comes near, some days I remember how excited I was to get that call, other days I am happy that we are on this side of the transition. I do know that Kellan's second birthday will be completely different than his first (when he was only home for 7 weeks), I'm so happy to celebrate with him. There is so much to be thankful for!

  2. How happy is that kid - mmmm, cereal!! So cute! I'm impressed by the language development ( A is still not putting words together.) I hope you figure things out with the ear :(, I hope it is something easily treatable.

Yes, I know what you mean about being on "this side" of the adoption. It was a such a lot of work. Happy party planning!

  3. Max has not put any words together either, really, so go Kellan! Sounds like he's doing just great. Poor ears though :( I hope he's nice and healthy when his birthday rolls around!
